The Nike Kobe 5 Protro “5 Rings” is a special release by Nike Basketball that honors Kobe Bryant’s fifth NBA Championship with the Los Angeles Lakers. The “5 Rings” design originally released in 2010 following the Lakers’ latest NBA Finals victory, and Nike brought back the colorway as part of its tribute to Bryant’s career and popular fifth signature shoe in 2020. Accomplishments tied to Kobe’s legendary career are etched into the purple Hyperfuse upper of the “5 Rings.” Yellow accenting highlights the detailing that would otherwise form the forefoot and eyelet overlays of the Nike Kobe 5 Protro. Elsewhere, a yellow Swoosh can be found on either side and Bryant’s “Sheath” logo appears on the purple tongue. Tonal mesh detailing on the collar and a purple TPU heel clip with Bryant’s signature in yellow text add to the shoe’s distinguished Lakers theme. Nike’s Zoom Air technology is embedded in the foam midsole to provide a cushioned ride whether on or off the court. Release date: October 15, 2020.
